On the Fly: Saturdays of My Youth

I woke up this morning, made coffee, conducted some business via email then plunged right into my deadline book. Two hours later I broke for a shower and, while suddsing my hair, reflected on, for whatever reason, how I spent the Saturdays of my youth.

Glued to the television watching cartoons aaaaaaall day. Among some of my must-sees: The Jetsons, Johnny Quest, Mighty Mouse and anything Looney Tunes. Enjoy an episode of my all time favorite cartoon character--The man, or rather bunny--himself BUGS!

When you were a kid, what was your favorite cartoon?

I loved Jonny Quest! I had a crush on Race Bannon. *g* I also loved Speed Racer. I had a crush on Racer X on that show. :)

God I used to watch so many when I was a kid. I loved the ones you mentioned, but I was into the boy type cartoons too - Transformers, Voltron, He-Man. I used to love those.

Scooby Doo!!! Followed closely by Jonny Quest. I also watched Speed Racer and Lost in Space. Yes, I know the latter isn't a cartoon, but it was on my Saturday morning viewing schedule...along with the Monkees. (wg)

Back Tori, back! I'm almost positive I saw Race Banyon first!

Gina, I'm not familiar with the ones you mentioned. I'm guessing maybe I was 'a kid' a decade or two before you. Or... I just missed these, opting instead for Josie and the Pussycats. ;)

Jordan, appearently we have the same Saturday-fare taste. I was a huge fan of Scooby Doo! When I grew up, I wanted to drive the Mystery Machine. Was there ever a cooler van?

As for non-cartoon entertainment, I never mised LOST IN SPACE. Loved it. And I also tuned into THE MONKEES regularly to ogle one of my first crushes--Davey Jones.

More favorites: Dudley Do-Right, Top Cat, George of the Jungle, Secret Squirrel, Flintstones, Underdog, Dastardly & Mutly...

Good grief, I was a cartoon addict!

Johnny Quest, absolutely. I still watch it from time to time when I catch it on cable.

The happiest memories of Saturday morning for me, though, are sitting on the floor and eating cereal with my Dad as we watched Bugs Bunny. He'd loved the cartoons when he was growing up, and it was wonderful to watch some those with him.

That's a beautiful memory, Caro. Thankyou for sharing. Ah, but what brand of cereal? Captain Crunch? Rice Krispies? Lucky Charms? *g*

For years we actually had Chinese school on Saturday mornings, so I remember watching as much as we could until we had to run to school (thankfully not too far away). For some reason, I remember that the Smurfs was usually on when we had to make the mad dash... (not that I like the Smurfs... they were very odd, those little blue folks!)

I loved the Flinstones. Which originally were on at night...it was, I believe, meant for adults!
