The Weekend Update

Yup. That's me--the kid, not the dog--celebrating my first birthday. I celebrated that day yesterday, too, except instead of a stuffed animal, I got some new clothes, a graphic novel I'd been wanting, and--drum roll--an MP3 player! Yes, techno-wonders and techno-goobers, I have dipped my toe into the modern gadget world. Now I just have to learn how to use it. LOL

I spent that last few days working (day jobs) and zoning (writing). My immediate goal was to have three chapters of my WIP completed by today. I've tackled two and I still have the rest of today to meet my goal. I'm determined. I also managed to hack away at a few of my other goals. Amazing what you can accomplish when you focus. It helped that I resisted blogland, although I must say, I really missed you guys! My reward for completing that third chapter will be to blog-surf and catch up on your lives. I best get cracking!

Oh! The furry guy in the pic is 'Buttons'. He was my first dog. :) And those legs belong to my mom or my grandma--I don't know which. But check out those pointy-toed stilletos! To think women used to wear those daily. Ouch!

Hey, happy birthday! *Throws electronic confetti*

I think I'll put away my 8-tracks and see about these MP3 players . . . :)

Welcome to the dark side, Beth. Have a cookie. *Chortles gleefully*

And Happy B-Day!

Thanks for the birthday wishes, Bruno! And yes, thank goodness, I did spend the weekend 'in the zone'. :)

Smiling at all the pretty colors of Scott's electronic confetti. :) Thanks, my friend. Uh, 8-tracks? Hate to break it to you, but I do believe those have gone the way of Victrola records. You know, 78s. :)

Happy (belated) birthday!!!!

So which MP3 player did you get?

Hey, I have some 78s stashed in my closet! Big Band music. Fun stuff if only I still had a turntable to use them on. :)

Constance, I took your advice and had a cookie. Chips Ahoy. Reduced fat, but still yummy. In fact, I had two!

Tori, it's a Samsung T9. It's a teeny, slim, black unit. According to the box, features include: music, photo slide show, movies, games (did you hear that Scott--GAMES-although I don't know what kind), FM radio and voice recorder. I looked through the user manual and broke out in hives. I don't understand the whole download/upload process. Steve, who is more of a tech-whiz, is learning the process, then hopefully he can teach me. He asked me to give him one of my CDs and he'd upload. I handed him one of my faves. He said, "Yanni?" He turned away but I'm pretty sure he rolled his eyes. :)

I shall adjourn to my veranda, sip me a mint julip, and listen to my victrola, thank you very much ;)

I was going to get an mp3 player but my store didn't have any mp3's to play on it . . .

Games? *perk!*

As I lit the candle on the cannoli and sang "Happy Birthday" to Barbara (wife) yesterday, I remembered that the two of you have tha same B.D. So, that B.D. song was for you, too. As, you add a year, she subtracts a year. I'm sure you'll both be the same age eventually.

Have fun with the MP3 player. I have about half of my collection on my Sony Net Walkman 1GB model. It stores more in less space because of Sony's own proprietary compression files. It, also, plays MP3's. I've even converted some of my old LP's into MP3's. What Fun!

Now, run to your costume closet, brush some of that clinging confetti into a small container ...then toss it up, and get under it while I say once again - Happy Birthday!!!

Beth, in a month you'll wonder how you ever lived without it. Or kept your sanity without it. Especially when the stores start blasting bad christmas music. *shudders*

If you want to see what you could become if seduced by the dark side of technology, drop on over to YouTube and check out Weird Al's new video "White and Nerdy".

Scott, I'm learning little by little how to work some of the functions. I now know how to listen to the FM radio and the one CD Steve uploaded for me. :) I also found a video short that's in the player. It's so cool! And there are stok photos. I need to learn how to replace those with photos of my own. No kids, so it means pics of my two dogs and cat. :) I also ound the GAMES. Just now it had two. Baseball and Pizza Delivery. Don't ask me how they work.

Anyhoo, if I can learn how to work this gizmo... you can!

Gina and Jen, thank you for the birthday wishes!!

BROOKS! I can't believe I forgot Barbara's B-day was the same day as mine. Drat! Hope the cannolli was good :) and that you both had a nice day. Thanks for the birthday song. LOL Oh, hey, LPs into MP3s?? I'll have to mention that to Steve. He has a huge album collection. Was that hard to do?
Beth Ciotta said…
Constance, I'm already enamored with the thing. I've just got to get a grip on the download/upload process. :)

Hmm. I'll have to skip over to YouTube... also a new popular place. That's where I saw some hilarious interviews/lectures featuring Kevin Smith.

LP's to MP2's? Easy if you have a turntable and the proper connection cables. Steve will have that covered for ya. It just takes longer than converting CD's, because, first you have to record the LP in digital format on your computer. So, you have to sit through the session in real time.

BTW that Verfication Word on the last post should be: "dqmewl".

Makes more sense.

Congrats on the birthday and the new toy. I agree with others, once you figure it out you'll wonder what took you so long. I love mine and shudder to thinking what I was doing before I had one. Of course I'm one of those weirdos who not only will listen to 50 different songs by 30 different singers in one sitting - I'm also prone to listening to the same song over and over and over.

Alles Gute zum Geburtstag. My best wishes for your birthday.

Or, if you want to really tie your tongue in a knot, the German version of the Happy Birthday song ...

Zum Geburtstag viel Glück, zum Geburtstag viel Glück, zum Geburtstag, liebe Beth, zum Geburtstag viel Glück!

Cynthia, you are not alone. If a song really calls to me, I tend to listen to it over and over. You know the theme song from Last of the Mohichans? I Will Find You by Clannad. One day, I think I listened to it twenty times in a row. ;)
Beth Ciotta said…
Gabriele, no one has ever sang to me in German. That was a first, and very special indeed. Thank you!!!

Happy happy Beth! I can't believe you're the big 2-0! Anyway, what MP3 player did ya get?!
Beth Ciotta said…
Hi T-lo (Taylor *g*)! Thanks for the birthday wish. The MP3 player is a Samsung T9. Ooh. Pretty. Shiny. Oh, and it does cool stuff to. :)

Happy Birthday Beth! You should take the day off...if you can't then take a day off later this week, and relax!
Beth Ciotta said…
Thanks for the well wishes, Roni. A day off, eh? That would be nice. Perhaps I'll plan for one next week. :)

You go girl! A birthday and Mp3 player all in one week?!?! What are you to do? :-)

As far as focus... I need to take lessons from you. After my 6 week jaunt of rewriting an entire book, I've lost any focus I once had. Then again, for me, it is the time of year. I tend to get nostalgic of all this academic. And of course, parties.
